Happiness is the Key: Oral presentationAfter watching Happy and discussing key issues that arise from the film, you will read, discuss and analyse four to five short texts selected by the teacher on issues associated with happiness in the modern world (positive psychology). You will then give an oral presentation to the class on a topic related to happiness and well-being.

Term 2
Write a letter based on the film HappyAfter watching Happy and discussing key issues that arise from the film, you will write a formal letter using information from the film and the field of Positive Psychology. Your letter should be a letter to the editor responding to a specific article or advertisement which you have found. It is important to demonstrate your understanding of information in the film as well as your ability to follow the conventions of formal letter writing in English. You will also need to provide evidence to back up your claims.

For this task you will read and analyse a variety of school blog articles, identifying the structure, language features and conventions in the texts.
You will then write an article for our school blog on the topic of studying overseas. You will also need to write a short paragraph analysis of the structure, tenor and purpose of your text. DUE: Draft Friday Week 1 term 2 Final Friday Week 2 term 2 |

Deliver a 'TED Talk'For this task you will analyse 5 TED talks of your choice and then present your own “inspirational talk” to the class. The process you must follow is listed here:
1. Find five TED.com talks that you find inspiring or interesting. They should all be related somehow (a similar topic or theme). Post links to these on the class blog. 2. Identify at least 20 key words/phrases to learn from each talk and make a Quizlet.com list to learn them. Join the class Quizlet group here. 3. Write a one paragraph summary of each talk and post in on the class blog here. 4. Write a short letter to the speaker of each talk thanking them and responding to the content of their talk. 5. Find the email contact for the speaker and email your letter to the speaker. 6. Write your own inspirational talk on a similar topic or theme. 7. Present your speech to another class. Your presentation must: · Be on a topic that is of personal interest to you. · Clearly state what your issue or topic is and why you have chosen it · Imitate the style of a TED talk as closely as possible. · Touch not only the minds but also the emotions of the audience. Presentation: Oral presentation with Power Point slides (at least 4). You may use notes but you will lose marks if you read too much. Students complete an extended written response to an aspect of the issue analysis. They:
Discussion Individually, students demonstrate knowledge of the issue they have studied through a discussion with their teacher. They are expected to present information and to explain and substantiate their opinion of the issue with reference to the texts they have studied. Students are asked open-ended questions that require extended responses. They do most of the talking, with an emphasis on the spontaneous use of language to give appropriate responses to the teacher’s questions or comments. |
