Hallo!!! Just figuring out how this works!! :)
Ok... So Leighton. What are the points that you are going to be arguing??? I need to give a brief out-line in the Intro. Also, anyone have any mind buckling ideas about why earth hour is so successful?????
Well my points are:
Basically what is in the photo about how it is an event which involves the audience. Making it more popular and how it is symbolic so basically recapping some of you points. BTW I should have my speech up tomorrow because I'm not available this afternoon. Is this okay?
Hang on... Are you doing the points on how it is symbolic??? I thought I was doing that :0) The points that I am doing are:
Its symbolic and the success rates (also how big industries, buildings and schools get involved)
Here is my points on the Symbol Leig-ton:
The point of earth hour is to turn off the lights for one hour. The point of earth hour is not about saving electricity, it is a symbol. The symbol of the desperate need we have to care for the plant. It’s also a symbol and a yearly reminder of the fact that we all have a part to play in helping the environment. We all need to work together as this is a problem that can affect all of us. The symbolof earth hour is trying to get a message across. It is trying to say that everyone can help, not just the famous and popular. We are the roots of this project, without our help this project would go no where and our planet would be at risk.
Could Hallie and Leighton please post their arguments in dot point form?
E.g. 1. It's symbolic...
HERE IS MY SPEECH NON-SPELL CHECKED | Not Completly Done Cya At Meeting Tomorrow:
Good everning mr/madam chairman ladies and gentlemen, fellow debaters. The topic of tonights debate is that Earth Hour Is a waste of time. We the negative team belive this statment to be false.
Before the second affirmative speaker has tyed to tell you...
Thius is false because...
This speaker has also stated...
this aswell is false because...
[RECAP THOSE TWO REBUTTLES]
our first speaker hallie has stated that earth hour is not to save electricity uses but to educate the public on the pressing isue of rising use of electricity, and its effect on us as a comunity. And how that if major buldings and landmarks around the world do so why cant we, earth hour absulutly does no damage to our enviroment so why leave it out?
Today I am going to be talking to you about how important earth our is and how it is a great way to invlolve the public in a informative sulition to educating us about the pressing issue of fast growing electricity use.
Now for my first point. Earth hour is and important event for educating the public on the earth high electricity consumsion and how it can effect us in the future this also makes Earth hour is just as important as ANZAC Day and 40HourFamine. In 2010 2974.71 kW were used every hour thats 600 kw more than ten years before. As you can see in the near future our electricity consumsion will be out of control this will affect us and future generations, this is why we need to educate the world. Earth hour involves and interacts with the public in and imformative way making it the perect solution to educatinbg the public on the change electricity is having on our earth in a simple understandablke way. The world has to make a change and its going to start with Earth Hour.
So Mr/Madam chairman, ladies and gentlemen, fellow debaters in conclusion to what I have informed you wil tonight Earth hour infact is not a waste of time and that it will encourage the public to support making a change and helping
the world and each other in the future. This is all done by one simple hour of of turning of your electricity and helping out, this cant do any harm, Thank you.
PS: If you have any ideas please let me know
All good Leighton. Not overlapping to much! :0)
Do we have a meeting in the morning???
Yes we will have a meeting
Here is my debate:
Good after noon Mr/Madam Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen. The topic of our debate is that Earth Hour is a waste of time.
However, we, the negative team, believe that this statement is false.
Today as first speaker I will be talking to you about the success of Earth Hour and how it is symbolic. Our second speaker will talk about the importance of earth hour and how it is a great way to involve the public. Our third speaker will rebut and sum up our teams case.
The first speaker on the affirmative team has tried to tell you that
This is wrong because…..
She/He also said that……
This is wrong because….
I will be discussing two points. My first point is the success of earth hour.
There are over 7,000 cities and 150 countries that participate in earth hour each year. It is not only people who get involved with earth hour; large, iconic buildings join in as well. One example would be the Eifel tower. Each year the Eifel tower turns of all of its bright lights and sits in the dark. Along side with buildings, schools and large, popular industries that get involved.
Even though one hour isn’t saving all that much energy, it is making people aware and spreading the new of how easy it is to help out our planet and make a difference. This has obviously been successful as there were only a small number of countries that got involved with Earth Hour at the start, and there are now over 150 countries involved all over the world.
To put it in perspective, Earth Hour started in Australia in 2007. Now, in 2013, there are over 150 countries in evolved around the globe.
My second point is that Earth Hour is Symbolic.
The way that people get involved in earth hour is by turning off their lights for one hour. But that’s not the point. The point of earth hour is to express the symbol. The symbol of the desperate need we have to care for the planet. It’s also a symbol and a yearly reminder of the fact that we all have a part to play in helping the environment. We all need to work together as this is a problem that can affect all of us. Earth hour is trying to get this message across. It is trying to say that everyone can help, not just the famous and popular. We are the
roots of this project, without our help this project would go nowhere and our planet would be at great risk.
So Mr/Madam Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, in conclusion many people have got involved in earth hour each year as well as large monumental buildings over the years with earth hour and it is a worthy cause. Earth hour isn’t just an event. It is a symbol of what we can do for our planet and raising awareness of the fact that we all matter when it comes to saving our beautiful world. Many people believe in this and help make a difference, there for Earth Hour isn’t a waist of time. Thank-you
So Hallie your 2 points are:
-the sucess of earth hour
-the symbolism of earth hour
Yep!!! Thats correct Ruby!!! :0)
See you all soon!!!!!
