Today we watched the following two advertisements and began making observations for the analysis task. Transcripts for the ads are here and here. For homework you need to complete the "Observe" section of the chart. You can do it on your own or add to the spreadsheet linked here and pictured below (please don't delete other people's work!). Remember that you are simply listing examples of the language you hear. Try to avoid describing the language: just write specific examples initially. I adapted the following very helpful tips from this website. A memoir is a reflection on a memory. The writer tries to capture the “true essence” of the memory by bringing meaning to the memory. A memoir does not only recount an episode or a memory, but also the memoir reveals the person. For example, a personal narrative may recount a first bike ride, or a trip to the beach. But in a memoir, the purpose of the story is to reveal something enduring about oneself. As the writer, you are searching for the truth and significance of the story. Here are some tips to help you get started: Write down “stand-out moments.” What moments in your life do you remember as being important, or happy, or sad? Think about some of these “defining moments” in life…some may include:

Term two is all about telling your story. It's about presenting that special "you-ness" in a variety of ways and in such a way that someone may even be interested enough to hire you. Have a look at the term plan (under term 2) and start working on rough drafts for each task. |
